Bostadsområdet Södra Guldheden ligger på bergen öster om Änggården och gränsar i söder mot Mölndal. Göteborgs centralaste delar ligger inom inte alltför långt gångavstånd för den som vill utnyttja storstadens utbud. Det centrumnära läget till trots präglas stadsdelen av en småstadsliknande atmosfär, främst förkroppsligat av det livaktiga Doktor Fries Torg; med bibliotek, livsmedelsaffär, apotek, kvartersrestaurang och ett flertal affärer.
Biltrafiken leds runt området som dock saknar de stora öde bilfria ytor som präglar mindre lyckade stadsplaneringsförsök i staden. Området förefaller planerat för människor med de behov människor har. Skolor, dagis och service finns inom räckhåll för de boende och kommunikationer i form av 10’ans spårvagn och bussarna 42 & 52 är utmärkta alternativ för att transportera sig.
Cachen är utplacerad i Guldhedens gröna lunga: Guldhedsdalen. Här kan stadsdelens invånare, och alla människor med sin arbetsplats förlagd i närheten, exempelvis Sahlgrenska Sjukhuset, njuta av ett stort och i det närmaste orört naturområde. Kring cachen finns berghällar och stup, ljunghedar, små eklundar och rent av urskog. Man kan njuta av utsikten och av det rika fågellivet. Det centrumnära läget gör sig påmint av grafitti på en bergssida. Att praktisera lite ”trash out” är inte fel.
Tillgång till grönområden och orörd natur bidrar till såväl hälsa som välbefinnande och området är ett exempel på lyckosam och genomtänkt stadsplanering med människans behov i centrum. I Göteborg idag, en stad med storstadsambitioner vars styrande inte ser behovet att anställa en stadsarkitekt, är denna typ av stadsbebyggelse alltför ovanlig. Och mycket riktigt finns planer att bebygga, ”förtäta” i Guldheden och nagga dalen i kanten. När du söker efter cachen kan du fundera på det.

The residential area of Södra Guldheden (“The Southern Gold Moor”) is located in the hills east of Änggården and bordering to the south to Mölndal.
