How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is the third in a series of multi-caches celebrating great canoeing spots and water in general. The idea is to have a series of caches, some of which can only be completed by boat, some which can be walked to and some, which require a mixture of paddling and walking.

Health and safety – kayaking/canoeing and walking are potentially dangerous (as is everything in life!) and are undertaken at your own risk. Please be careful. None of the caches are placed in dangerous locations. Access – please act responsibly and stick to access agreements for rivers/lakes etc and stick to rights of way over land. All caches can be reached this way.

The Islands of Windermere

Windermere is England’s largest lake at 10-11.5 miles long depending on who you speak to and around a mile wide at it's widest point. It is also probably the busiest lake with vast amounts of people visiting it all the time. I have paddled the length a few times but you will be pleased to note you won't have to for this cache!

You WILL need a boat for this cache and I recommend a kayak/canoe rather then anything bigger. This multi-cache is in two parts. The co-ordinates at the top of the page will lead you to a location where with a little hunt you will find some co-ordinates. These co-ordinates are for a landing place on another island. from here you just need to walk towards the other end of the island looking for the cache at the base of a tree. if you need any more help theres always the hint! I would recommend getting on to the lake at either Millerground (why not do my other cache while your here!), Bowness or at the public slipway next to the car ferry. You can get on elsewhere but these are the closest spots.

It would appear that these islands are used by nesting birds so i request that you stay clear of theis cache while the birds are nesting (this explains the attribute saying that it is not available all the time!). during the rest of the year however the islands are clear and great places to explore!!
Hope you enjoy the hunt.
