Payback 13 - The Outhouse vs. 2 Multi-Cache
ohjoy!: With the old outhouse having been torn down, and the new one not yet constructed, this one become irrelevant.
I wanted to place an ethnobotany letterbox hybrid, but haven't had the time to set it up.
If someone would like to do that, I'd be glad to help - and introduce you to Dean. Since Dean cares for the area with the permission of the college, it is critical to speak with him before placing a cache in "his" woods.

Payback for what? I don’t really know. Maybe all of those quirky caches I have done – and enjoyed! Originally placed in honor of Friday, January 13, 2006. I decided not to wait until the next Friday the 13th in February 2009 to redo this one.
The waypoints and final are so different from the original Payback 13 that I archived that one and will give each of you a second chance to visit these beautiful woods.
Coordinates a tad bad? Well, what do you expect from a Friday the 13th cache? There are great instructions here (and in the two waypoints) to guide you to parking, the trail entrance, both waypoints and the final. The purpose of the cache is to take you on a great walk.
DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY!!
TRAIL ENTRANCE: coordinates found below. If you see a barrier as you first start down the trail, it means that the resident caretaker of this woods (see more below) is not at home. It is his way to stop friends from making a wasted trip to see him. If it is up when you arrive, you should just bypass it.
PARKING: highly recommended around the corner from the trail entrance to avoid potential theft.
WAYPOINT 1: placed to get you on the correct trail. Find the Sign Tree and look in the crook. Please replace firmly to prevent critters from dislodging it. It also has hints on how to get to and find wp2
WAYPOINT 2: placed to keep you on the correct trails to the final. It is under a signpost at a “T” in the trail. As directed in that waypoint, you will go left for about 75’ to get on the correct side trail. If you go right, you may have the opportunity to meet Dean – see below.
FINAL: satellite reception is poor here, so there are detailed instructions about finding the cache in waypoint 2.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
A few years ago I had the privilege of meeting the man who cares for this part of St. Martins' property in exchange for living there. Dean, a retired vet, extends an open invitation to any and all to walk the trails and stop by to see where he lives.
Dean has built his cabin, including a wood stove, out of scrap materials. He is one of the most conversant people I have ever met when it comes to native plant identification and is responsible for the informational signs you will see along the trails.
If you choose to visit Dean, to get to his cabin you will continue right instead of left on the trail past wp2. If he is there, he will be glad to show you his space and share more information about the plants growing in the area. When I find a native plant that he is looking for, I dig up a slip and drop it off for him to add to his collection.
He says that the outhouse is meant to be used and he keeps TP stocked there for anyone to use.
