How strong is that concrete? Traditional Cache
mr sparks: I placed this cache when I had a caravan at Harlech so I was close enough to maintain it, Unfortunately I no longer have the caravan & it's a bit difficult getting over as often as I'd like, so I'm afraid this one is going to have to go into the archive, shame because it's an interesting spot so I hope someone else sets a cache there in the future.

This cache is located close to the dam wall that encloses the impressive, Trawsfynydd lake, which supplies water to the Hydroelectric power station at Maentwrog, and used to cool the reactor at the nearby nuclear power station until it ceased generating in 1990 (it is currently being de-commissioned).
You are looking for a tupperware type container, which contains an assortment of the usual novelty items.
There is permitted vehicle access (see note below!) right up to the dam wall, N 52*55.32 / W 3*58.272. From the A470 turn into the power station entrance, and drive past the visitor centre (well worth a visit) toward the main station gate. Turn left into the visitor car park, then out of the bottom of the park over the cattle grid. Now follow the road along the side of the lake (with the main power station buildings on your right) until you reach the dam wall (alternatively there are very interesting footpath approaches). The cache is only a few hundred yards from there, across the top of the dam and down the path on the other side.
Note. I came on a maintenance visit today (9/10/05) & a lot has changed since I placed the cache. when I originally enquired about road access I was told that the route to the dam was regularly used by fishermen & pic-niccers and although it was not a public right of way its use was tolerated without liability. I have to say that if I was setting the cache today I would probably hesitate to include road directions (it's up to you!) the public footpath routes are all still applicable though.
