You are welcomed to go in to visit the Church where you will find a number of historical features one is Bishops Rudds resting place which is quite a striking monument. The Church is a Grade 2 listed building constructed of limestone with red sandstone dressings and dates back to the 1800s,the tower is thought to be early 15th century and the south aisle dates to the 14 th century. Close by, and well worth a visit, is Aberglasney Mansion and gardens. During the 1600’s tradition says that disembodied candle-flames flickering around the building at night were harbingers of sudden death. The number of flames were said to foretell the number of deaths. In the 1630’s a housekeeper saw five such lights in what is now known as the “blue room”. Shortly afterwards during some rebuilding work, five maidservants were found dead in the room when a charcoal burner used to dry the walls in the badly ventilated room asphyxiated them as they slept. The prophetic ghostly candles thereafter became one of Aberglasney’s most abiding legends. Note three tiny, unmarked graves in this churchyard are said to mark the burial place of the five maidens.
