This cache is not on the posted coordinates and a part of a series of crypto caches.

This cache is not on the posted coordinates. In this series of caches placed in the summer of 2009, you will encounter a variety of cryptographic methods, which have been in extended use throughout history. You have to solve (but not necessary find) the five caches Krypto Fioniae 1-5, in order to find the cache Krypto Fionae FINAL, and apart from this there is an extra cache for those, who wants an extra challenge.

In this cache we meet a cipher, which has been known since ancient Rome. The story says it was created by Julius Caesar about 2000 years ago, and it has been in use ever since. The may seem a bit surprising, as at least since the 9th century there have been known effective ways of breaking the ciffre, but still in 1915 the cipher was said to be in use by the russioan army. Today it is mainly known from introductionary text about cryptography and childbooks.

The cipher works by choosing a number N between one and the length of the alphabet, and then counting N letters from the clear text letter onwards in the alphabet, continuing at A when reaching the end of the alphabet. If for instance the number N is 6 then A will become G, B will become H and X will become D. For decryption the same prodecure is used, just counting N letters in the other direction.
