The Cache Across America Series: This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of the entire United States. One cache is hidden in each of the 50 states. These caches each contain a numeric clue that will lead you to one final cache located in our nation's capital upon completion of the series.
About this cache: This location was known as Canyon Creek Pass. This narrow gorge has long served as a travel corridor. Native Americans likely trekked this canyon for thousands of years. Alexander McLeod of the Hudson‘s Bay Company provided the first written account of the route in 1829 while traveling from Fort Vancouver, on the Columbia River to California‘s Central Valley. In 1846 this route became part of the Applegate trail, an alternative route to a bad portion of the Oregon Trail. Stagecoaches followed this route in 1870s and today, Interstate 5 connects Washington to California through these steep passes.
Within 100 miles of this point are many great areas. To the northeast is Crater Lake, to the south is Ashland and the Shakespearian festival. To the west is the ocean and some really great beach caching.
This cache is hidden near a point of interest describing the route. Parking is easy to get to from all directions. We had to place this further from the parking as it has already disappeared five times. Don't let the change in location stump you, it is close by and there is no climbing required.p>
Be sure to get the numbers off the lid and take a picture if you are going for all 50 states and the grand cache at the end. For all others, just log this as a regular cache. TBs and trade items welcome.
Logging Requirements: Enjoy this cache as you would any other. If you are searching this cache as a participant in the Cache Across America series, please post a photo of yourself or a member of your group with the cache in your online log. If you for some reason are unable to meet the photo requirement, please make alternate arrangements to verify your find with the individual cache owner. There is no photo requirement for non-challenge participants.
Individual verification of all 50 state finds will be required before logging the series final.
If participating in the series, please take note of the three digit code located inside this cache. Save this code in a secure place. When you have visited all 50 caches, and have collected all 50 codes, you are welcome to seek and find the final cache! Good luck!
