My first cache hide!
This cache is for the (slightly) adventurous. It's located in the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit.
It's located on an unmapped trail that leads you from one of the few Free Parking lots in the area, straight to the top of Dundee Mountain. This trail is a MUCH easier route to the top of Dundee Mountain than going inside the Long Lake Campground area which also requires a State Park Sticker. (The Park Rangers are aggressive about ticketing there, too).
To access the trail:
At Dundee go east on Hwy. F past the water mill, to a gravel parking lot on the right side of the road (N43 38.904 W 88 10.315). Walk across the highway where you drove in and hike east to trailhead nearby (NOT the Ice Age Trail which is quite a ways down the road). You will know it's the right trailhead because it has a 10 foot iron gate preventing vehicles from entering. I've included Waypoint Coordinates for the Trailhead.
Using this trail to more easily access Dundee Mountain
If you choose to continue beyond this cache, to the top of Dundee Mountain (highly recommended as it's a great view and 3 more caches are up there), that is a one and one half mile hike. Follow Summit Trail sign directing you up Dundee Mountain. Then it's a (steep) trail.
Note: Area is closed 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. A state park sticker is required if you access Dundee Mountain through the Long Lake Recreational Area (near Campsite #944).
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted and approved by the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest Headquarters of the Wisconsin DNR. Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form.
Permission to place the cache was granted by Jason Quast.
