Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the grounds of The Old Fort.

I think that there is more history in these few Square meters than anywhere else in the Greater Durban area. Wander around and see for your self. Take some time and visit Warriors Gate as well.

The Old Fort was constructed in 1842 by the troops of Captain Thomas Smith, who marched into Durban to show a British presence in the face of the Dutch farmers intention to establish a Republic in Natal. The Boers besieged the garrison for 34 days, resulting in the famous ride to Grahamstown by Dick King and Ndongeni Ka Xoki. In 1858 the facilities were expanded to include an armoury and barracks.

Today the Old Fort stands amid gardens planted with many species of cycad. The original ammunition magazine is now a small chapel. In one corner stands the ornamental Warriors gate, the shrine and headquarters of the M.O.T.H organization and a museum of Natal relics and war memorabilia. Open Monday to Friday from 8am till 3pm. Closed weekends & public holidays

As always keep a look out for

Muggles & Muggers.
