Geocache Description:

An ideal cache for visitors arriving in the ACT.
This cache is not abandoned. :)

Being such a small place really, the ACT has the advantage of really only having four major roads into and out of the Territory. So it really surprised me that no one else had thought of placing a cache at each of these entrances. Hence the concept of "City Gates". This is City Gates 1, fittingly located on what is probably the most used road into town.

I was thinking of placing it right by the border but that really did not look like a safe place to pull over so I decided to put it at a nearby place with a RAAF connection. When approaching the ACT you will see a sign shortly after entering our territoty for a rest area and exit. When departing the fair city of Canberra you will need to drive 1.2 KM past this place, leave the main road, cross a bridge and drive back to enter the area as there are no road entrances from the south. Do not cross the median strip, it's dangerous and illegal.

Once in the general vicinity you may find a facility of much use to travellers and a connection with the RAAF. The cache is not far, no more than 100 metres from where you can park you car (or more if you choose to park near the facillity). The container is a 6 litre container large enough to take sizeable swapps. It is also the ideal spot to drop off travel bugs on their way to or from Sydney.

When exiting this area it is possible to travel onwards to Canberra or Sydney.

This cache has been vandalised several times recently. Please kindly provide a condition report on the cache when you visit it so I know if it need further attention. Also, this cache is subject to dampness. Please kindly take a cloth, rag or tissues to wipe out the interiour after rainy days.
Thanks, Panic!
