Geocache Description:

A night adventure for winter excitement...Watch for reflectors. If you hit a space with three reflectors it is time to find a cache. The final cache is an ammo box.
There is one intermediate cache with a friend to give you information to complete the cache.

To start this cache log on to...
(visit link)

Pick one of the haunted sites and photograph youself there. Many are close to the actual cache so additional travel isn't necessary. If you don't have a digital camera i will still let you log it...but tell the story of your travels...

I picked the area for this night cache based on a story told to me by an old timer in anchorage...Alaska has never had a death penalty, but in the territorial days Miners Code was standard. Based on rough analogies to the common law, the miners's code limited its punishments to three: hanging for murder, banishment for assault and stealing, and a fine for all other offenses. A man from Missippi named Karl Amundson ran to alaska after allegedly killing a family of four. A group of vigilantes caught up with him in Anchorage and hung him on the south side of town. There is little known about the execution. Due to the lack of a jury at this time in territorial history they were secretive, and it ended up being more of a lynching than true justice. Juries had to be made up with tax paying citizens but at this time there were no tax payers! The men felt like justice needed to be served immediately and took care of it themselves. His family still claims his innocence. His grave is somewhere nearby and has an estimated $10,000 in gold...Numerous people have attempted to find it usually with horrific results. I am unsure as to why his family buried him with the gold. The grave was buried deep in the ground during the 64 earthquake when the bluff cut away and will probably never be discovered. However, it is said that Karl's ghost still hangs around there searching for the gold and waiting for true justice. I wouldn't be suprised if Karl's ghost takes to the cache and guards it like his own. There are numerous stories of a mysterious light that floats around near the location of the cache...log it if you see it. I made noflatlines go out here with me and test my coordinates and reflector placements because i wasn't going alone in the dark. Good luck.

I am not aware of any of the local "spirits" being unfriendly so your biggest danger is slippery ice, moose, and transients. Always dress appropriately and be safe! This cache will require a moderate walk (it is a mtboy cache!)

Use the commuter trail to the southwest of the railroad tracks on the ridge...it is easier than the trail that follows the base of the bluff. Check out AKwhoudini's oceanview cache that is nearby, you use the same access. Stay off the tracks.

Please be careful as the bluff is steep and can be slippery. There is a nice trail most of the way. The area is swampy at some times of the year but still easily completed.
