After much consideration we've decided to archive this cache. There are problems with four of the waypoints and the changes necessary to fix those would have knock-on effects to most of the other waypoints. Some of the changes would, in our view, make the cache less challenging and less enjoyable. With great reluctance, and more than a little sadness, we feel that the best course of action is to quit while we're ahead.

Thanks to all those who met the challenge, and especially thanks for making this one of the top-rated caches in Berkshire and in the top 1% in the UK. We hope you enjoyed finding it as much as we enjoyed placing it.

This is not the end, however. One of the early finders, the other short fat one with the beard [:D], said "each of the stages was well worthy of a cache on its own". We've taken that comment on board and we've prepared a short series which uses some of the locations of "The Bracknell Ramble". So look out for "The Bracknell Ramble Remembered" series coming soon.

Geocache Description:


The Ramblers Route is a 26 mile/42km circular walking trail through the countryside around Bracknell. The walk follows footpaths, bridleways and tracks through varied scenery. This cache will take you to explore some of the countryside along the route.

Your starting point is the beautiful 11thC church of St Michael the Archangel, Warfield. The coordinates will take you to ample free parking in front of the cemetery. Please don't park in the church car park even if it's open, as it's usually locked except during services and you may find yourself locked in. For obvious reasons, parking may be a problem on Sundays.

Things you'll need:
  • Seven hours if you intend to complete the cache in one attempt by car
  • Stout walking boots, especially if you intend to walk the whole of the Ramblers Route
  • Access to the Internet in the field, either by PDA/GPRS or similar, or by phone-a-friend (preferably non-cachers)
  • Pen/pencil and paper
  • A sense of adventure

This bit should be obvious but we'll say it anyway. You must sign the log book in the final cache in order to claim the cache. This will become clear when you get there. If we discover that your online log isn't supported by a valid entry in the cache logbook...well, just make sure it is.

Please don't give away locations, distances or clues in your logs, as this might spoil the adventure for others.

This cache has been a long time in planning and has taken quite a lot of preparation. We hope you enjoy finding it as much as we've enjoyed placing it.

To start the hunt you'll need to explore the exterior of the church and find the image on the left. Within a few metres, on the same wall, you'll find a plaque dedicated to a local worthy.

The number of letters in line 7 word 4 = C
The number of letters in line 3 word 1 = D
The number of letters in line 3 word 2 = E
The number of letters in line 4 word 3 = F
The number of letters in line 7 word 2 = G
The last line has a date in Latin. Convert the date to YYYY. The 3rd digit = H.
