trailhound1: This series was bigger than my appetite. With very few finders and the burden of keeping it maintained, its time to say good bye.

Geocache Description:

This series highlight many of the old farm ponds that exist at LBL. They are off the beaten path and require some cross-country walking. You will be looking for a plastic lock-n-lock type container with a log and a pen.

Pond #34

LBL Pond #34

The two main fishing areas at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area are the impoundments of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake.  Several other impoundments,  Hematite Lake, Bards Lake, Honker Lake, Energy Lake and Duncan Lake  also serve as fishing spots.  But these are the only places were fish occurred over the years.  There are over 200 small ponds listed in the LBL inventory.  Some of these are abandoned farm ponds. some are watering holes established for the wildlife. Some have dried up or become filled with sediments and detritus.  However, it  you look closely on the old maps or Google Earth, you may spy some of these hidden from view.  The next time you are at LBL and come cross one of these, add them to the series.

From the parking waymark, you have two options to get to the pond: 1) walk along the field across the Trace then through the woods, or 2) walk down the Canal Loop - C connector trail, then through the woods.  To avoid ticks, I would use the trail, but its faster to walk along the wood line next to the field.
