WARNING: Above coordinates are NOT the cache--this is an offset cache involving, you guessed it, math!
This cache features my favorite geometric formula, which I've probably used more in daily life than any other, as well as putting your GPS to good use (rather than being ALL math).
You might have to make a couple trips unless you bring a calculator and know the right formula (web search if not). (The Milford library is open Sat. 10-5, but NOT July-August, and can be found near: 41N 13.338' 73W 3.258')
For the sake of this cache (and to make it easier--so you can potentially do it in your head), round Pi to the nearest whole number.
Expect to find wet/muddy trails after snowmelt or any rain--there's a VERY high water table at this former reservoir site.
The cache is found in 'Pi' steps:
1) Find the distance of the main inner loop trail. (Knew that GPS would come in handy...)
2) Were the loop a circle, calculate the radius. (Knew that formula would come in handy...)
3) The cache is half that distance (radius/2), at a magnetic bearing of 266 degs. from the listed coords. (There's that GPS again...)
(The given coords. put you on an obvious rock--if your coords. are offset, you can adjust accordingly.)
Circumnavigating Mondo Pond takes less than 1/2 hr. There are two parking areas that can be found but the one at the school is unavailable schooldays before 4:00 pm.
Please share the fun in your log but please don't spoil the challenge for the next cacher (email those tidbits to me).
This cache is very winter and kid-friendly (no dogs or bikes) although the park is only open dawn-dusk.
