Geocache Description:

Charge up your flash light batteries. It is intended that you do this cache at night. I gave it a difficulty level of 3.5 if done at night, and 2.5 if done during the day. This is a short 2 part cache, the log has no pen so be sure to bring your own. I also challange you to find the answer to a question (read on for the question) found at the second waypoint. Please don't sign the log if you can't answer the question.

The Court house is an impressive site on a clear night, under the lights. I feel that this old building is best viewed at night. This is a view that not a lot of people get to see, or take the time to see. If you do this one during the day please try to be discrete. There could be a lot of foot traffic in this area.

Construction started in October of 1893. It was completed in November of 1895 for a cost of $... Wait, that’s what you are looking for. You need to find a sticker with the dollar amount of the cost to construct this fine old building, before you sign the log, please.

In 1887 Colonel D.P. Jenkins donated the land and $1,000 for the construction of a new court house. The county commissioners at the time wanted a building “of brick and stone or stone as near fireproof as practicable to include commodious vaults for records, plumbing, heating, sewerage, closets, and everything necessary for the courthouse and jail and to cost no more than $250,000.”

A competition was held for the design of the courthouse. The famous Kirtland Cutter’s design came in second. The winner, W.A. Ritchie received his initial training in architecture from a mail order course prepared by the superintendent of architecture in the U.S. Treasury Department.

The court house is said to closely resemble two famous 16th century chateaux in the Loire Valley of France, the Chateaux de Chambord and the Chateaux d’Azay Le Rideau.
