Black Canyon CITO Event

This Cache IN Trash OUT event is in partnership with the Cleveland National Forest – Palomar Ranger District office located in Ramona.

The clean-up efforts will focus on the historic Santa Ysabel Creek Bridge (Black Canyon Bridge) #57C0361 that was built in 1913 and is eligible for NRHR. The bridge is 38 meters in length and is a concrete arched deck design.

WHERE:

Black Canyon Road Bridge and the Black Canyon “local swimming hole” located on the Black Canyon Road in the Cleveland National Forest – Palomar District north of Ramona.

To get to the Forest Service offices and clean-up areas turn at N33°03.066 W116°50.696 onto Magnolia. Magnolia changes names to Black Canyon Rd. where you will find the Forest Service Office at N33 04.389 W116 50.712. To reach the bridge continue for several miles to N33 07.412 W116 47.985, a bit farther north you will find parking for the “local swimming hole” near N33°07.838 W116°47.733.  Normal passenger vehicles can get to these areas.

WHEN:

Saturday November 12th we will meet between 9:00AM and 9:30AM at the Palomar Ranger District Offices (N33 04.389 W116 50.712)located at 1634 Black Canyon Rd. in Ramona. We will have some breakfast (donations please!) before a brief introduction and orientation by one of the participating Forest Rangers. *You must be present to sign the appropriate Forest Service waiver and sign the event participant roster.*

We WILL be finished by NOON!
WHAT:

We have been requested to assist in covering-up graffiti on the historic Black Canyon Road Bridge and to pick-up trash along the Black Canyon Road, especially near the “local swimming hole”. With the elimination of the Adventure Pass there has been an increase in use around these areas which has generated large amounts of litter that can affect the nearby watersheds.

BRING:

Breakfast, water, gloves, and proper footwear. Please be cautious of the poison oak since we will be working in a watershed area in will be prevalent!
