Another easy Cache and Dash. No bushwhacking required at all. There is a nice easy pull out right at the cache.
Coordinates bring you to an interesting historic plaque. Almost as interesting is the coincidence of placing the cache. Two were placed at this location and posted at almost the same time - seconds apart. Our posting happened first, and Badfeet XX felt a close tie with this location since it was the oil industry that brought her to Ventura, so we were awarded the site. For details about the cache placement coincidence, check out Geocraig's blog "Ojai #6–My Newest Cache, Almost" available through his geocaching.com site or (visit link) He also posted some gorgeous photos of the area.
Here is some of the info on the plaque:
Oil Well Ojai No. 6
Prelude to California's Oil Empire
Near here May 1867 California Petroleum Company brought in "Ojai No. 6" "...described as the first well drilled for oil in California that yielded an exended commercial production...first production well drilled by mechanical power and first to flow by it's own energy. Regarded as the forerunner of the States Oil Bonanza."
Additional info is also provided about Thomas R. Bard and the Union Oil Company.
Dedicated Sept 11, 1965
Union Oil Co. of CA
Petroleum Production Pioneers, Inc.

Sailing and caching through the area trying to beat the rain-- which we didn't--

Thanks for adding to our day

It was a dark and stormy day in the Ventura and Santa Paula areas but Flaglady and I pushed through the rain to enjoy your cache. We found the monument and the likely hiding spot but no cache so we replaced it with a film can for you. If you decide to check on your cache and find the original, feel free to delete our logs. Just trying to help and keep the sport going. Thanks for the hide.

Wow, if I would have known it was OK to replace all of the caches I couldn't find, I would have brought a bag of film canisters too.
