Geocache Description:

The cache is located close to the Kenilworth to Berkswell Greenway, formerly part of the LNWR railway line. This line closed in 1969 and is being developed into a Greenway for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. [Autumn 2020 - Sections of the Greenway are closed, as this will form part of the dreaded HS2 route. This cache is at the side of a footpath which is currently open]. Also, nearby, there is a good view of an electricity substation, with its distinctive 50 Hz ‘hum’. The short walk to the cache, from the recommended parking spot (N52 23.325 W001 36.884), passes along an interesting green lane with an excellent variety of woodland plants. This was part of a series of caches created by ‘A Coventry Way Association', though most have been archived. The association was originally formed to promote a long-distance footpath, A Coventry Way, and to support local authorities in the path’s maintenance. Our primary aim was to encourage people to discover and use the local countryside. A book of 21 Circular Walks was produced, broadly based on the main walk. See ‘www.acoventryway.org.uk’ for further information. FTF had the chance to grab a copy of the book. Appropriately this cache site is dedicated to Trevor (1926 - 2005) whose professional life was associated with the distribution of electricity from source to our 13A sockets. He also had a flair for all things mechanical, but most importantly he used all of his exceptional skills, not only helping his family and friends, but any person he met who was in need. He was a very good friend to both Iris and Cyril Bean, co-founders of A Coventry Way. The cache is small, 0.33-litre lock & lock style box, containing the normal stuff. It is located on a public footpath on the shorter version of walk 3. This 4.5-mile walk starts at the Hickory's pub (N52 23.228 W001 36.072), but the recommended parking spot (space for two cars) involves a round trip of little more than ½ mile.
