Activities

This meeting will be the kickoff point for the Premier Geocoin Race V. If you wish to participate in this race please contact Shilo before the event so your trackable can be prepared. For more information see the PGR V website.

This event will also be the official public announcement and launch of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, State Parks and Historic Sites Geo-Challenge. For the past several weeks as many as thirty of our GGA members have volunteered their time to assist DNR and Parks personnel in placing caches in 42 parks across the state. Come and hear the DNR explain what all this effort has been for, and perhaps get a head start on finding them!

A poker run will replace our typical raffle, so come early to pick up the coordinates to the temporary caches containing the cards. Here's the general idea:

  • Coordinates to five temporary caches (hidden in the park), along with complete rules, will be given out from the pavillion beginning at 10am.
  • Find as many of these caches as you can and take one envelope from each. The envelopes contain one playing card and are marked to show which cache it came from.
  • Do NOT open the sealed envelopes!
  • When you're done, bring your sealed envelopes to any GGA Steering Committee member before 2pm for processing. At this point your name and hand will be entered into the game.
  • Opened envelopes, multiples from the same cache, submissions with more than five envelopes, entries after 2pm, or other perceived "sneaky business" will be disqualified!
  • You don't have to have all five to win, tho your chances are greatly improved if you do.
  • The ten highest-scoring hands win a selection from the prize table which will include various geocaching, GGA, and Georgia State Parks items.

About the Park

Fort Yargo State Park offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation and scenery. Mountain bikers and hikers can test their endurance on 18 miles of trails. A 260-acre lake offers a large swimming beach, fishing and boat ramps. The park's heavily wooded disc golf course is exceptionally challenging (no disc rental at the park). The park rents fishing boats, pedal boats, and canoes; there are two tennis courts and a miniature golf course. Fort Yargo is a Muddy Spokes park.

More Information

Come prepared to spend the whole day at the park. Georgia State Parks will provide lunch - the weenies start burning at 1pm.

Make your arrangements soon as campsites, yurts, and cottages will fill up fast. We're looking forward to a great turnout from GGA members, guests, and new cachers alike. Everyone's invited - hope to see you there!
