Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates

Rubik's Cube - If you are old enough then you probably remember when it seemed like everybody was twisting and turning the cube trying to get the colors to match. The very first cube I bought did not come with a solution - back then we were on our own. It was not an easy task to solve it then, and it is not any easier today; therefore, I thought of this little puzzle for your enjoyment. Now, I do recommend that you acquire a cube before starting this puzzle although the hardcore cube solver can do it online using pen and paper to keep track of movements.

Funny though, as I went to Target to purchase a cube for this puzzle I asked a store employee (he was in his early 20's) if they had any Rubik's Cube. He gave me a puzzled look (pun intended) and asked me if it was the thing you twist with your hands and he made some kind of hand-motion. Luckily there was another employee (thirty-something) nearby that overheard us and immediately pointed me to the correct shelf.

Some facts:
Most cubes can be solved in only 17 moves with the aid of a computer, and theoretically there is no cube that requires more than 20 twists to solve. Some people can solve the cube in under 45 moves from any scrambled position; and a few can even solve the cube blindfolded!

Here's what you do - Start with a solved cube and add numbers as shown in the picture; the direction of each number is important. May I suggest using stickers instead of writing directly on the cube - sticky dots etc. especially if you're borrowing your kid's cube.

Here is the puzzle part - you need to scramble the cube with 7 moves to reveal the coordinates (1 move = 1/4 turn). Think of this as solving(!) the cube in reverse - hence the title name.

-What should I do if my cube color pattern doesn't match yours?
-Improvise, the color is not important as long as the position of the numbers is correct. You can always run down to the store or raid your office supply cabinet at work for some colored stickers.

-I don't know how to solve the cube the regular way, what should I do?
-Find somebody that can, or if you buy a cube nowadays, it usually comes with a solution manual. You'll definitely need to know how to solve the cube since you're likely to scramble it to the point of no return.

Good luck and have fun!

Getting to the cache involves some medium bushwacking - watch out for cactus and snakes!
Don't forget to write down the code for Code #18 to be able to solve for 'Tecolote "Puzzle" Canyon #20 - Finale!' or you'll have to go back again.
It's bad caching karma to rip papers from the log - bring a writing instrument and a piece of paper with you.

Fine Print:

I will not confirm, check, verify, look at, clarify, corroborate, substantiate, authenticate, validate, or give personal hints until all 20 puzzles have been solved. It's only fair since there are some hardcore puzzle solvers that are toiling with these puzzles. However, if you e-mail me where you are stuck and the puzzle has not been solved for an extended period of time, I can add hint(s) to the listing for everybody to see. Feel free to send me an e-mail whenever you are stuck, but don't expect a personal reply until all 20 are solved.

Instead of writing notes in the cache log as a as a way to communicate with each other, you can discuss the puzzles in this thread in the forums, but no blatant hints or spoilers please. Keep that off-line!
