Geocache Description:

Very easy to get to and I think it should be easy to find.

Here is a rail car that needs some help. I found this car with my daughter, one day, because she wanted to see a train. Then I got more information from Dave Lawton. He serves on the board of directors of the Chico Art Center, a non-profit visual arts organization. Here is what Dave said about the car.
The Center purchased the 1947 Pullman standard Great Northern coach with the help of a grant from the City of Chico, Chico CA. The intent is to remodel the coach into a gift shop, rail history area and refreshment center. This will not only provide additional revenue stream for the Center but to provide a slice of history that will soon be lost to future generations if physical evidence of the past is not maintained and shared. The coach is sited in front of an old Southern Pacific depot on a spur track that was used for un-loading merchandise. The combination of the building and the coach is a perfect fit.
The original grant covered only the purchase and transportation of the coach from Beaverton, OR. All repairs and improvements are the result of our continuing fundraising efforts. To date we have installed an air-conditioning and heating system, replaced all the smoked glass windows with clear glass and have removed and replaced all the old fiber-glass under the windows with foam board, firing strips and finally a vertical bead wainscoting. The seating that came with the coach ( walkovers, not original seating) will be re-upholstered to match interior colors. We are in the process of repainting the roof and just finished the installation of a handicapped accessible door in the vestibule end of the coach. We are hoping to finalize the roof in the next couple of weeks and work inside during our rainy season. This is a large project and no one aspect is straight forward, but there is a lot of satisfactions in working on the coach and watching it evolve. All labor is volunteer except where local codes require a licensed contractor to do the work.
Now, there is a micro-cache there, but if you would like to help in any way, there is a sign with information & a phone number on it or you may email me, & I will get you whatever information I can.
