This monument pays tribute to one of the most popular and influential political leaders in American history. His support of tariffs on imported manufactured goods helped to influence the American Industrial Revolution which greatly impacted Schuylkill County's Coal and Iron Industries.
Many believe his greatest service to the nation came in 1850, when he won an acceptance for a Compromise that ended, at least temporarily, the threat of civil war over the issue of slavery in the South. What this did in reality was to give the North a chance to develop both economically and politically enough to withstand the Civil War and allowed the necessary time for Abraham Lincoln to develop into the great president he became.
With the passage of this Compromise, he was hailed a hero, so much that after his death, he became the FIRST American to lie in state in the Capital rotunda and his body was carried from city to city in a grand procession that was to become the precursor for Lincolns funeral.
Answer these few questions and e-mail me your findings to qualify this cache as a FIND.
1.) Who am I?
2.) Give me the number of stone blocks on the top tier (2 layers) of the base, below the column.
3.) What material are both the object and column made of?
NOTE: Do not be in a hurry...........take your time and look around, I have been getting way to many wrong answers because people seem to be in a hurry and take the first thing they see as gospel....... WITHOUT really reading. I have been rather easy with the smileys..........as of today (06-18-12) the answers are either right or wrong - all 3. Sorry if I offend anyone :^)
