Geocache Description:

A chance to explore a different part of Joe English Reservation in Amherst, NH.

This cache is inspired by Shakespeare's comedy The Comedy of Errors.. A synopsis of the play as well as the full text can be found here. A very funny play about the reunion of two sets of twins who were separated during childhood. This play about two sets of twins with the same names led me to put out twin caches with twin names, twin hides, and twin contents giving you the opportunity to visit two great spots in this wonderful area. As with all the Shakespeare caches, you don't have to read or see the play in order to find the cache.

"Every why hath a wherefore." (Act II, Scene II)

Joe English Reservation already has a couple of caches (GCH311 and GCM9DH) but this cache and its twin will bring you to another part of the reservation - one with its own set of nice trails and same interesting natural features. The area is very easy to hike with well-maintained trails and excellent trail markings. A map of the area can be found here.

Although you can choose shorter paths to visit both caches, I'd like to suggest the following tour which I've enjoyed a lot. The entire hike is 2.19 miles.

The Tour

  • Starting at the parking coordinates, walk up Old Brook Road Trail until you reach Intersection #7.
  • Turn right onto Ledge Trail and walk a short way to Beaver Pond and check out the wildlife.
  • At intersection #9, turn right to stay on Ledge Trail which will take you to Syracuse where you'll visit Antipholus and his servant Dromio.
  • Continue on Ledge Trail. Just before you reach Intersection #12, check out Lookout Rock - you can't miss it.
  • At Intersection #12, tuen left onto Highland Trail and continue on to Intersection #13.
  • Turn left onto Harding Loop Trail and proceed to Ephesus where you'll visit Antipholus and his servant Dromio.
  • Continue on the Harding Loop Trail until you reach Intersection #15. This is my favorite part of the tour - if you only want to do part of the tour, this is the part to do.
  • Turn right onto the Highland Trail and walk to Intersection #14.
  • Turn left onto Pine Trail and proceed to Intersection #27.
  • Turn left to stay on Pine Trail which will bring you to the pond which is near the parking area.

Enjoy the tour!
