This cache is the 23rd point on the Dartmoor Forest boundary, as established by the 1240 Perambulation. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.
What today is called South Hessary Tor was referred to in the return of the Perambulation as “Ysfother”. Today it also goes by the name of Lookout Tor. It sits on a fairly slight rise south of the valley in which Princetown was built, and sits alone in a sea of grass like a small castle, with most of its surrounding clitter having been collected and used to build the miles of nearby newtake walls.
If doing this cache as a standalone, the closest parking is at the Plume of Feathers in Princetown (waypoint below), and the well-defined track heads slightly uphill to the Tor. If doing the Perambulation as a route, the next point on is Princetown, and it is an easy walk down the same old packhorse trail to the town.
