NOTE: If you are coming and plan on taking part in the geocaching portion, please post a will-attend and such. I plan on making the passports up ahead of time and getting them printed, so I'd like to know in advance how many people will be taking part. (People together can share, even with multiple names). I will order extras, but don't want to have too many left over).
It’s that time of year again! The Hall of Fame Picnic is raring to go!
Welcome to the eighth year of the Hall of Fame Picnic. This year, we return to our roots and are going to be at the Kiwanis Pavilion in Neahwa Park in Oneonta. This is a nice little spot in the back corner of the park and we’ve used it before with great success. Hopefully the weather will agree with us and we can have a great turnout!
This year, the theme is passport!
Here’s the plan – a couple of us will be at the park at around 10 a.m. At that point, anybody who shows up will get a passport. That will lead you to seven letterbox hybrid geocaches. In each cache will be a stamp – stamp your passport on that page.
In each of those caches will be a hint/clue/number you’ll need to write down. Those will lead you to the eighth cache!
Everybody who completes the passport trail will be entered in a drawing for some prizes!
Each of these caches will also be submitted to geocaching.com and, hopefully, will be able to be approved late Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Post a will attend so you get notices and as we get closer, there will be more information posted.
The Hall of Fame Picnic
Eight years ago, we started this event and never knew what it would be like. It’s grown to be a fun and interesting event and it’s great to see the people who come back each year.
Neahwa Park is in the City of Oneonta and has room for other activities. We’ve jumped around to different parks, but this spot is always “home.”
Bathrooms are a short walk away (at the larger pavilion and they are always open to the public when the park is open). There are other activities in the park, as well as a good-sized playground nearby.
In regard to food this year -- we will be working to get a 6-foot sub (and a second, if numbers dictate). It's still a bit of potluck, but we don't need the massive spread like we have gotten in the past. So we are thinking we'll need these items (please let us know in your will-attend log if you are thinking of bringing any of these, so we can make note of it on the page):
- Water
- Soda
- Veggie dish
- Chips
- Fruit
- Dessert
- Macaroni salad
- Potato salad
The passport handouts will start at about 10, and we’ll hang out for a little bit. We’ll plan on commencing the picnic itself at about 1-1:30 p.m., back at the pavilion. We’ll do a group photo as well.
Please log a will-attend so you get notices for announcements, and it also allows us to keep an idea of numbers.
Note: Dogs are allowed, but by city law and respect for others, please have them on a leash.

- Passport handouts: 10-10:30 a.m.
- Picnic start time: Approx. 1-1:30 p.m.
- Passports handed in to be eligible for prizes: 1:45 p.m.
- Awards/door prizes etc.: Approx. 2:30-3 p.m.
- End time: Approx 3:30- 4 p.m.
