This cache has been archived.

Nomex: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

In 1887, John Fred Boepple came and introduced the pearl button industry that took off quickly. The H.J. Heinz Company also located here in 1892. Growth and progress has continued and still continues in Muscatine.

Muscatine is the pearl button capital of the world and at one time almost half of the buttons manufactured in the world were made right here in Muscatine.

Muscatine was first known as Bloomington but due to a plethora of Bloomington's in the state, the city renamed itself in 1850 as Muscatine. It isn't known precisely why the name was chosen. It may be from the Mascoutin Indians in the area. One thing that is for sure is that it is the only city in the world with the name of Muscatine!

This series of caches was designed to be quick and easy. It will also give you a chance to enjoy the beauty of the "Mighty Mississippi".

In an effort to introduce Geocaching to more people in the Muscatine area and bring others to the area we have created the LOBRI Trail Geocaching series. Watch the local newspapers for information about an upcoming "Geocaching 101" event. This series follows the walking / biking trail along the riverfront. The trail parallels the railroad tracks but there is no need to get close to the tracks to find any of the caches. Click on any of the links below to go to whichever cache you want information about. Most of all get out and have some fun!
