MET Downhill Bike Ride Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Scoobert: Thanks to those who came out to this one. No, really, THANKS!
There will definately be a repeat for this one. I'm still itching to do the ride myself. Right now I'm thinking about September 6th - the Saturday after Labor Day starting at 9 am. Weather should be good and most of the traffic should be going UP the hill instead of coming down the hill. And as of right now there are no other events in California posted for that date.
If you are a watcher and expressed interest but couldn't make it, please let me know how this date works for you so I can get it posted.

Geocache Description:

I have so much fun driving down this hill, I always wondered how much fun it would be riding down this hill. You are welcome to come find out with us on June 29th.

We will be starting not too far from the CITO site the previous day at Mormon Emigrant Trail (AKA Iron Mountain Road) and Silverfork Road (posted coords). From there we will be bike riding down to Sly Park Reservoir, or however far you wish to go.
From Silverfork Road to Sly Park is approx 20 miles (32 km), but almost entirely downhill. You will lose about 4200 ft in elevation while only gaining about 650 ft. This ride should be suitable for either a road bike or mountain bike.
Besides riders, we will also be looking for plenty of volunteers to shuttle, man the "watering holes" along the way, and simply provide moral support for those doing the ride. Please let us know how you wish to participate in this event in your log.

For those riding, helmets are highly encouraged and I'd say a must. MET is not exactly "busy", but cars do go fast so riders should stay as far to the right and single file as much as possible. We will also have signs posted so that motorists are of the bicyclists. You are welcome to ride one mile or the entire length - hopefully we should have a system in place to get all riders back down to Sly Park. It's too hard to nail down the details right now without having any idea of interest for both riders and volunteers.
This is by no means intended to be a race, and of course you are welcome to stop by and pick up any of the fine caches along MET as you head down the hill.

Also, if anyone does not plan on attending but has a bike rack they wish to loan, we may be in need.

The ride will probably start around 10:30 am and last until the last of the minglers at the lake are gone. Many more details will be announced as this gets closer, so stay tuned.

Remember, you don't have to make the ride to sign the log - the only requirement is to come out and have fun.
