All of us, at one time or another, probably consider our lives very complicated. Life is filled with concerns on how are we going to pay for the house, the SUV, get the kids through college, what to do with our aged parents, and the list goes on. Consider for a moment, as you view the vista in front of you, a president, who took office during the great depression, led the country into World War 2, helped implement the United Nations, negotiated with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin, and did all of this while crippled and suffering a pain that we will never have to experience. Try to imagine the burdens placed upon his shoulders and you will understand his need for the solace and solitude he found in this place. Many presidential decisions were made here.
Bring a picnic, and as you enjoy…think back and imagine the linen covered tables, the finest of silverware, candles, and fine wine…far, far away from our nations capital.
