Geocache Description:


Come one, come all - it's the fourth annual caching romp through Sonoma County. In addition, it's also a celebration of the 10th anniversary of geocaching! What better way than by combining a caching day with a great potluck dinner, fun, and games.

The Great Sonoma County Geo Rally - May 1, 2010


Welcome to the 2010 Sonoma County GeoRally. We had over 100 attendees last year, and expect even more this time! Here's how it works:
  • A week or so before the event I'll post a file with a bunch of waypoints for you to load into your GPS before you come to the event. Coords of the waypoints now available - visit the more info page linked below to get them!

  • We'll meet at 10:45 am in the Coddingtown Center parking lot, at the listed coords.

  • When you check in for the event, you can choose to donate a geo-related raffle item in return for a pick from the 'bucket-o-hints', which will give you a hint or answer to one of the questions.

  • I'll give you all directions for the day's activities, then you'll head out on the caching GeoRally. A lot more info on the rally itself is available at http://www.donaldlaird.com/georally.html.

  • I will be receiving entries between 3:45 and 4:30 pm, back at the starting coordinates.

  • You can then choose to proceed to the GeoRally Potluck and Awards - 10 Years! Sebastopol, CA for rally results, raffle, and potluck dinner. What a way to spend the day!

As part of the 10 years anniversary of geocaching, I will be submitting this event to become an official '10 Year of Caching' event, which will give you a coveted Special Icon for your profile. In addition, I will have for sale at the event a very limited edition geocoin created just for the events taking place this anniversary weekend. I have only a limited number of these coins (<50) to sell, so be sure to purchase yours early. Here's the coin:


If you post a 'will attend' log, I'll contact you when the waypoints are available. You can also add this cache to your watchlist to keep up with updates as more details become available.

It should be a beautiful spring day to enjoy the backroads of the wine country, so come out and play!

Update: 4/8/2010

I've added another option, specifically for those who don't want to spend all that time in the car - a walking rally route! The same type of tricky questions, just on foot. Total length of the walking route is about 5 miles, all of terrain 1 to 1.5. If you'd like to try the walking route, contact me, so I have enough materials available...
