We'll gather at the site at 1 PM to hang out and talk geocaching and otherwise be social.
We've arranged to have a group tour starting at 1:30 PM with a representative from the OSU Newark Earthworks Center, so people who want to stay after the geocaching social portion of the event will be able to come along. Please give us a headcount for the tour if you will be planning on taking it, so we can let the Earthworks Center people know how many to expect.
The octagonal portion of this site has eight 550 foot long walls, enclosing 50 acres. It is connected to a circular earthwork which itself encloses another 20 acres. In 1982 two professors from Earlham College in Indiana discovered that the Octagon Earthworks are aligned to the four moonrises and four moonsets that mark the limits of a complicated 18.6-year-long cycle.
Note that the terrain rating is for the event itself, NOT for the tour.
If you have questions about the event, please contact us and we will follow up with the Earthworks Center directly. Updates will be posted to the event as appropriate.
