Lost in the swamp
Special thanks to Jon & Miki for all there help in
planning this cache & marking of the trail.
There's a great trail leading through the backwaters behind
Adams Mill Pond at N.R. Goodale State Park that will take you
within 50 yards of this cache. It's an easy find
once you are in the area, and once you are there, you'll see that
there aren't very many places you'll need to look.
But you'll have to do your looking from a boat since the cache
is located along the canoe trail that begins across the
lake. There is no way to access this cache from
dry land. The trail winds through the swamp into some very
pretty areas and is well worth the visit without the lure of a
cache. A canoe or a kayak is ideal since the
trail bends rather sharply at times and the water is often shallow
with many logs and propeller-tangling weeds just beneath the
surface. The canoe trail winds back into the swamp about 3
miles, the cache is located about a mile in along the
trail. The trail has been marked with new trail
markers, but it's still possible to get off the trail (though
you'll probably find it again soon if you look - there aren't that
many trails through here). Just in case though,
you may want to mark a few waypoints along the way or make sure
you're keeping a breadcrumb trail just to make it a little easier
to find your way home. You can easily make it to the cache
and back in two hours, but if you want to stop and admire the
scenery along the way, you might want to allow longer.
You can bring your own boat or you can rent a canoe from the
park rangers. The park has two canoes available
for rental at $3 per half hour, $5 hour, $7 for a half day &
$12 for the whole day (life vests included). If
you bring your own boat, make sure you have the appropriate safety
equipment and let the rangers know you are out on the hunt for this
cache.
