Geocache Description:

BY THE BLIMP HANGER
.
The large building looming near the cache is the new "Vertical Screen" headquarters. The building is Platinum LEED - a totally energy efficient structure. The structure will generate more energy than it consumes.
.
This is the 25th in a series of caches to commemorate our towns 300th Anniversary: 1711-2011. Our Tricentennial Committee sponsored a Township wide geocache hunt which was held in May 2011. Warminster Township has asked to have a geocache event in Fall 2012 in conjunction with planting another 300 trees in the Warminster Community Park - stay tuned.
.
We have placed an invitation to Geocache through our history on the Warminster Township website.
.
Short History of the Area
In 1939, the Brewster Aircraft Company bought farmland along Jacksonville Road and built a factory to produce warplanes for World War II. In 1944, the U.S. Navy acquired the plant, which eventually became the Naval Air Warfare Center. The base was Warminster’s largest employer— and one of the largest in Bucks County—and had significant impacts on the township and adjoining communities.
.
The Navy closed the NAWC in 1995. The township and county worked on a re-use plan for the vacant land. The township took control of the vacant land and began the process of recruiting businesses and new development to replace the approximately 2,000 jobs that were lost.
.
The Township Board of Supervisors (AG3L was on the board at the time) settled on 3 distinct packages to divide up the nearly 900 acres. The largest parcel was to remain in township possession as parkland. 100 acres went to Ann’s Choice as a continuing care facility of almost 2,000 units, and the remaining acreage went to a business campus.
.
In October 2006, the Community Park opened and has been well received by many groups – including many geocachers.
.
The Geocache
This general area has been popular for the placement of caches – but there are none within 0.2 miles. This is a green bison in a pretty obvious spot. Bring a pen/pencil if you choose to log.
.
There are lots of places to park across the street in the bank lot. stealth is an absolute must depending on when you come as this place gets busy during rush hours. Aside from the muggle factor it should be a very easy C&D.
.
Good Luck.
