Geocache Description:

A few miles outside of town there is a place where the sea sings to me.

And I listen.

Central Coast Geocachers of CaliforniaOne year ago from the day that this cache was planted, I got my start in geocaching. A year later all is well in Santa Cruz and things seem to be picking up. I had been thinking about placing a cache in this spot for quite some time now. Just like the final destination of The Strawberry Cascade, this spot is somewhere that I go to think whenever I want to get out of the house. I know that those who visit will understand why I come here.

The cache is not very tough to get to, it's just offers a great view and a place to sit and think. Although the cache is near a costal cliff, it is family friendly, just be sure to watch the young ones. Some routes to the cache are more family friendly than others, if the way that you are trying to go is too steep then you might want to backtrack a bit. Also, depending on which way you go, the tides may be a concern, but they don't have to be. The cache is more than 5 feet away from the edge.

The container is relatively smallish and flat, it is a 2 pint Rubbermaid thingy. Anything that you choose to bring should be flat-ish and smallish so that it will fit inside. Feel free to write some impromptu poetry in the logbook if you wish. Spots such as this often make me want to jot something down. It doesn't have to be good or rhyme or make sense at all, just as long as it means something to you.

The walk to the cache is about one mile round-trip, but it's a very easy mile. Please do not cut through any of the farms!

Please be sure to rehide the cache better than you found it!

There is no need to bushwack to get to this geocache. Also, be on the lookout for poison oak since it does grow in this area (there is none in the immediate vicinity of the cache). Coastal wild strawberries have leaves that kind of look like poison oak but are harmess and the rest of the plant looks like regular strawberry plants.

Parking: N36° 58.204' W122° 07.166' (just off CA-1 about 3.5 miles west of Santa Cruz, CA)

The cache is safe for children of all ages, make it a family outing. Mountain Bikes are not allowed. Dogs are allowed, but should be leashed and don't forget the plastic baggies for those nuggets of joy! Cache is accessible by a boat that can land on a sandy beach (e.g. kayak, canoe) for a real adventure (beware of marine hazards). Cache is night-time accessible (the park is closed between 10 pm and 6 am)! Leave the cache better hidden than you found it! 3D Differential (WAAS) EPE was 4.2 feet with a Garmin GPS V. ICG waypoint ID G-NX-096.

This cache is a part of my "Jazz" series. Jeff Golub & Avenue Blue's "West Side Serenade" was playing when I pulled into the parking lot. The name works so well with the location. :~)

Update: Cache replanted 16 December 2002. The remains of the old cache were removed. The cache's hiding spot was moved a bit as well. This new spot may be temporary. The original cache was planted on 4/20/2002.
