Geocache Description:

Savernake Forest near Marborough (Wilts)

Marlborough is situated in Wiltshire between the Towns of Hungerford and Calne on the old caching, sorry coaching, route midway between London and Bristol. The Marlborough area is steeped in history from Neolithic times onwards and makes a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful County of Wiltshire.

Savernake forest is a Royal Forest dating to Anglo-Saxon times and is just south-east of Marlborough. The forest now covers about 20 square miles but in the 1200s it was as large as 100 square miles. It's is a great place for a walk or a picnic on Sunday afternoon.

The cache is an ammo box that contains the usual kind of goodies.

There is a free public car park which at N51° 24.634 W001° 42.920.

The forest is criss-crossed by footpaths and the right one will take you to within 100 feet of the cache.
