Have you ever wanted to be an artist? Do you have a budding artist in your geocaching group? Now's your chance to encourage them! I've supplied any amount of subjects you would care to draw in the area -- rocky landscape, a scenic view, climbers on the rocks, and wildlife. All you have to supply is a piece of paper to draw on... the art supplies are in the cache!
Located in Horse Pens 40, this cache is a 1/2 gallon Rubbermaid container painted camoflage, with "geocache" written on the lid. You won't have to move anything but leaves to find the cache... but this could quickly prove to be a challenging find. Please note: This is not suitable for night caching -- there are sheer drops in the area! The park is open 7 days a week, but closes at sunset. Please plan accordingly.
The cache contains:
- Logbook and pencil
- 3 packs of markers
- safety scissors
- two flexible rulers
- two glue sticks
- several pencils
- a few other items I can't seem to recall...
Check out Horse Pens 40 for info, directions and park rules. There is a $3.00 per person entry fee to climb or walk the trails, and campsites are available. I have talked with the owner/manager of the facility and recevied permission to place the cache. He was very excited at the idea! He asked that cachers "please be careful in searching and don't move all the rocks around!" They are very nice people; please say hello and introduce yourselves!
While there is a very easy way to the cache location, I fully recommend that you follow the nature trail route. Most days there are climbers about on the rocks from all over. They are a friendly bunch, but as always, be discreet in looking for the cache. If you look close you can see the spots they climb and a "point system" for teaching. There are many fascinating rock formations, some with a very cool "Dragon Scale" pattern. If you are into Locationless Caches, there are at least five unclaimed rock shapes in the park. (HINT: Lizard rock is already taken by yours truly)
Enjoy the hunt!
