Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of 4 caches placed in Blair county Historical Society sites. You can do all 4 in a 60 mile loop staring here and going to 2, 3, and 4, ending up in Altoona at Baker Mansion. If you just want to go to the Furnace, take Rt 22 E to Yellow Springs. Just past Yellow Spring there is Etna Furnace road on the right. The Furnace is on the Left. After getting this one, you can continue to the Lower Trail or Williamsburg and 866.

You can go to www.bakermansion.org/our_sites/Etna_Furnace.php for more

Etna furnace was the first iron furnace in Blair County. It was built in 1809. There are many remains from the iron plantation on the road including a stone barn for the mules on the left, then the store and managers house. The remains fo the furnace were stabilized in the late 80s with steel bands. Be wary of snakes when you approach the furnace.

The cache is an orange match container and it is not in the furnace itself.
