High Country Picnic Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Inmountains: I left Colorado, moved back to California to care for my ailing father, so I am not able to maintain this High Altitude Cache. That, along with the destructive marmots that inhabit the area, means I need to end the life of this cache. I hope everyone enjoyed it who found it. It is under snow and ice 6-9 months out of every year, so there was a small window for finding it.

Geocache Description:

A 2 quart Rubbermaid Container with log book and a few goodies.

This cache is located along Black Bear Trail and if you are heading from the Silverton side to the Telluride side, it is past our Black Bear Trail Cache. Once you pass the saddle part of the trail, you will come upon a small pond and rolling meadow. This is the headwater area for the stream that feeds Bridal Veil Falls which are visible from the town of Telluride. Awesome place for a picnic, located at 12,500 feel elevation. The mountain wildflowers are spectacular in late June, July and early August. Will not be accessible in Winter, probably will be under at least 20 feet of snow. So bring a picnic lunch and enjoy this area above tree line. As an added treat, while we set this cache, we found several small rocks with flecks of gold in them. Not enough to mine, but enough to bring that "gold rush" feeling!
