Quarzriff
Die Schwarzwaldrandverwerfung, Grenzlinie zwischen Gebirge und
Vorbergen, ist jene Bruchstufe, an welcher der Oberrheingraben
zwischen Schwarzwald und Vogesen im Tertiär mehr al 4000m
abgesunken ist. Einzelne Schollen, verschoben und hochgestemmt,
blieben als Vorberge am Gebirgsrand hängen.
Durch Erosion wurde das Gebirge mehr als 1000m abgetragen und
der Graben durch Sedimente wieder aufgefüllt.
An der Bruchstelle drangen aus dem Erdinneren heisse Massen,
welche die Buntsandstein- und Muschelkalkschichten verkieselt
haben. Von diesem Quarzriff sind noch einzelne Brocken und Felsen
zu sehen. Es wird von Erz- und Mineralgängen begleitet. Im Bergbau
wurde hier im Mittelalter Blei und Silber, später auch Eisen
gewonnen. An der Randverwerfung tritt auch eine Thermalquelle
zutage.
Erderschütterungen und ein Absinken der Tuniberge im jährlich
1mm zeigen, dass die Verwerfung bis heute noch nicht zur Ruhe
gekommen ist.
Vor dem Loggen hätte ich gern folgende Fragen per Mail
beantwortet:
- Nennt mir die bedeutendste Thermalquelle, deren Ursache die
Randverwerfung ist
- messt die Höhe des Quarzblockes und nennt mir diese
- Natürlich gehört ein Foto von Euch am Quarz an den Log
Quartz Reef
The fault of the Black Forrest, borderline between the mountains
and the foothills, is thus step on which the Oberrhein Rift right
between Black Forrest and Vogesen dropped by more than 4000m during
the tertiary. Single floes, which were moved and lifted, remained
as foothills to the mountains.
Over the years the mountains were shaved-off by erosion by more
than 1000m and the drift was filled up with sediment again.
At the break line where lava broke through sandstone and
limestone was broken down to gravel. Only very few rocks from the
Quartz Reef can still be seen. That area is rich of minerals and
ore ledges. During the medieval times led, silver and later also
ferrous ore was mined. Right at the fault line a thermal spring
surfaces.
Minor earthquakes along with descending of the Tuniberge,
approx. 1mm per year, demonstrate that the fault is still moving
and active.
Before logging I want you to answer the following questions via
mail first:
- Please find the name of the thermal spring, which was created
by the fault
- Measure and tell the height of the Quartz Rock
- Certainly a picture of yours at the Rock is supposed to be part
of your posting
