Camouflaged container hidden in the flat lands of Sunol Regional Park.
There are several geocaches hidden along trails in the upper areas of this beautiful park. After spending a long morning hiking up and down hills in a cache quest, I thought the park needed a cache in an easy spot for families with kids to retrieve. The Acorn Woodpecker cache fills this niche.
A nice walk on flat ground will take you to the spot. The cache is a camouflaged peanut butter container filled with an assortment of kid's toys, the geocache letter, a pencil, and a logbook. There may be some tree interference with your GPS readings so I have included three hints to help in your search. Please replace the cache carefully so it is completely hidden from casual passers-by. There is no poison oak in the vicinity of the cache.
The cache is named for the Acorn Woodpecker, active year round in the park. This woodpecker has a black back and wings with a white belly and sports a red cap and a white eye ring. In flight, the Acorn Woodpecker is distinctive with a white rump and a white patch near the tip of the wing.
