Born on the Fourth of July Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

MainePublisher: All geocache placements must have a responsive owner. The cache owner must be able to respond to issues that come up and to submit an "owner maintenance" log to remove the "needs maintenance" icon.

In addition to the "needs maintenance" logs and DNF logs, Goundspeak also uses a Health Score algorithm. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713

In this case, Groundspeak has sent an email to the cache owner with no response. The cache owner did not respond to any of the cachers hoping to find the cache and did not respond to the reviewer note so the cache is now archived.

The cache location is now open for any Geocacher to place a new cache, including the original cache owner.

Geocache Description:

A cache placed on the Fourth of July at a fascinating historical spot.

Fort William Henry
Photo: Ye Olde Prospector

To find this cache, take Rt. 130 south from Damariscotta and follow the signs to Fort William Henry.

Part of the Colonial Pemaquid complex, Fort William Henry is a replica of a fort on this site dating from 1692. From the ramparts are wonderful views of Johns Bay and Johns Island both named for intrepid explorer John Smith. Contained within the fort are artifacts from archaeological excavations of the 17th century trading post.

Within the 8 acre site are also a 1695 burying ground and the Colonial Pemaquid Museum, which features Native American and European archaeological artifacts.

Cache is a small round tupperware container about the diameter of a CD with a blue lid. It contains nothing but army men, logbook, and a pencil.

Have fun and enjoy the history!
