The arachnid deftly treads
On wispy gossamer threads
To feast on this morning's fare
The victim caught in her snare
But before the spider dines
She spins and attaches lines
To her victim's head and limbs
One of her fanciful whims
She makes her marionette
Dance and prance and pirouette
Then she likes to make believe
Intricate plots she will weave
Of pirates, brigands, and spies
And dragons with glaring eyes
Her marionette battles
His saber swings and rattles
And then most peculiarly
When her play becomes dreary
“This is not a game,” says she
Then she ends his misery
Far below the gruesome scene
A lone white rabbit has been
Observing indifferently
Her queer eccentricity
With his pink nostrils twitching
And his pink eyes bewitching
Then he scurries down his hole
A dark warren neath a knoll
The spider is filled with greed
And to satisfy her need
For playthings she thus begins
An enormous web she spins
When the spider’s work is done
A global mesh has been spun
In her web you will be caught
All your struggles count for naught
