Geocache Description:

Harringworth Viaduct

Painted by TheArtAngell

Cache placed by the Boomtown Cats (Mrs Kipling) and adopted by Sergei Jonovich on November 17th, 2009.

We have been visiting this area on short breaks for around six years. But did not know of the existance of this Viaduct until a works colleague told me about finding this 'big gem' while he was trekking around the area.
The Boomtown Cats

Harringworth Viaduct or Welland Viaduct is a railway viaduct that has 82 arches, each with a 40ft span. It was completed in 1878. The line and structure is a favourite with steam train and heritage enthusiasts carrying a Grade II Listed Structure status. It carries the twin track, non-electrified line between Corby and Manton Junction. The route is generally used for the passage of freight trains and steam train outings, although it is also available as a diversionary route for the Midland Mainline.
If you should approach Harringworth from Wakerley you will see the spectacular view as it spans the valley and crosses the River Welland.

The coordinates lead to a particular archway support that has a certain number of discs on it. To resolve the coordinates to the final cache you have to answer the following:

  1. How many discs are on the support structure? = AB.

  2. On the discs is a number consisting of figures and letters ie ?M?0P = (C)M(D)0P.

  3. What is the year on the discs = 19E1
Work out the following values and then substiture them into the coordinates below

  1. F = A + B

  2. G = B - (A + D)

  3. H = D + A

  4. I = E - A

  5. J = D

  6. K = D - A

  7. L = B

Please replace the cache as found.

Since we placed the cache, there have been logs that say that the field DOES flood!!

The ground could be rough going for wheelchairs and buggies.
