Geocache Description:

A beautiful spot, overlooking a small bay filled with water lilies.

NOTE: This cache is a boat-access only cache (thus the high terrain rating). Once you beach your vessel, the hike is short and easy -- the cache should not be difficult to find!

Welcome to Loon Bay!

My father used to bring me here when I was young to walk through from Deep Bay along the trail. We would take pictures along the way of any interesting flowers, wild mushrooms, wildlife or plants. When we walked through to Loon Bay, it was often filled to the brim with water lilies and we occasionally saw a great blue heron. It was always very peaceful and I remember this spot fondly. We hope you had a moment of relaxation here too after you found the cache.

The cache contents started off as a theme when placed. It is in no way related to this spot except for the fact that my father enjoys working in his shop and these items are all things you would find in a wood/hobby shop. You do not have to stick to the theme – but we ask that you trade fairly whenever possible. Most items range from $3-6 each (though there are lots of mini-clamps that can be traded for smaller items). If you have forgotten a trade item but wish to take something to remember the cache…feel free to take a red shop pencil. EDITED AUGUST 17th, 2009: When I did my yearly maintenance on this cache, I realized I REALLY stuffed this cache full of all types of "woodshop swag". I know that the location is reward enough but I would like to offer to future cachers to feel free to take an item if you think it would be useful to you (no trade required). If the swag begins to deplete substantially, I will restock. Thanks!

We welcome all comments about this cache – we have included a bit larger log book than we would normally as we hope it will inspire people to write a bit more about their geocaching experience.

We would also love to see pictures and view your logs online here at the cache page.

There are two other coordinates listed to help out if you are not familiar with the area. It is recommended to attempt to find the cache from the Deep Bay side of the trail. If you head to the end of Loon Bay you will be faced with very shallow water and dense weeds.

You will need to go to the end of Collins Bay and go through the "Narrows" to reach Deep Bay if you are coming from Parry Sound or Killbear Park. Proceed with caution through this area as it is narrow and shallow. The first coordinate marks the beginning of this shallow area and if you stay approximately 8 feet away from the end of the cottage docks on the right, you will have plenty of water. Once past these cottages, you are best served navigating through the rest of the narrows mid-way between the shores.

The second set of coordinates is an ideal spot to pull up your boat. The trail at this location will take you directly to the cache.

Good luck!
