Geocache Description:

Located on the 368 acre Crumbacher Wildlife Management near Independence, Iowa.

The 368-acre site contains a rare mix of native and restored prairies, natural and restored wetlands, and natural and restored woodlands and shelterbelts. Lime Creek traverses the area. Although bird survey data is lacking, criteria species have been spotted and likely nest in the area (Iowa Audubon).

This cache is located within the boundaries of the Crumbacher Wildlife Management Area, which is operated by the Buchanan County Conservation Board. On my way to hide the cache, during a beautiful 70F degree day, I scared out a rather large Tom turkey, so bring your binoculars for animal and bird observations. Hunting and nature appreciation are available for all those that enter Crumbacher. I found many spent shotgun shells on the grounds, so be safe during hunting season. This cache is a large size, plastic coffee container wrapped in camo tape with the normal trade items. No particular FTF prize, just take anything you want in the bag of goodies. Please, replace geoflauge after locating the cache. Prior approval for placing cache was given by Dan Cohen of the BCCB.

TRAVEL BUGS ARE WELCOMED HERE AS A REST STOP WHEN TRAVELING ACROSS THE UNITED STATES!

WEAR BLAZE ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASON SINCE HUNTING IS ALLOWED PER BUCHANAN COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD REGULATIONS!!

Please practice safe caching practices when looking for this cache!

ATTENTION: According to a fellow geocacher, "wilderness mama", she reported seeing three albino deer in a nearby field. I have seen articles on these deer near Independence, but did not realize that they were near Crumbacher Wildlife Area. Be on the lookout for these deer when geocaching in this area!!
