Geocache Description:

Hawk1-A is located in the swampy bottom of the Haw River, area is damp, covered in poison ivy and full of deer, snakes, & ticks ... sounds lovely ... no?

This is the re-birth of my first stash ... Hawk1 ... items from the previous stash were placed in this one with additional items. It is a small cache ... so bring small items to leave. It is located less than 1 mile from the former location ... but is much less ... user friendly. Don't let this put you off ... it's a beautiful location, although the start passes some misplaced trash ... sad ... but true ... so just try to enjoy the swamp itself and try to ignore the remains left by local "goats". Tree coverage is thick and makes the best GPS accuracy ... at about 22 feet. I have place markers to assist ... but you will need a compass and a good sense of distance.

Park you car along the road at N 36 11.947, W 079 58.803. Look for the path of least resistance to enter the woods. Start near the creek at a Twin Poplar covered in vines. On this tree there will be a white ceramic knob at about 6 feet off the ground (see photo). This is your first marker. From here proceed at a bearing of approximately 340 degrees to another poplar tree at about 120 to 130 feet. Again look for the ceramic marker. From this position move to the next marker tree by heading at a bearing of 350 degrees for an approximate distance of 90 feet. At this location, shoot a bearing of 290 degrees ... in the distance you will see at tree along the creek that leans at about a 45 degree angle to the left ... head toward this tree (no marker). You will cross the creek, pass an old tire, see many deer tracks ... and end up at a clearing of sorts along the other branch of the creek. From this location you are within 50 feet of the stash.

Second photo shows the uncovered stash in it's new home. DO NOT VIEW THE THIRD PHOTO ...UNLESS YOU NEED THE HELP ... IT SHOWS THE SITE OF THE STASH ... BUT DOES NOT MARK IT.
