How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

An ammo can tribute to a local landmark. Lots of swag for the kids.

Our family has been caching for years, but it has been just in the last couple of years that we have really made geocaching outings part of our family time. We logged our 250th find across three states recently. To celebrate we are crossing into the other aspect of the game, becoming cache owners.

This area is pretty interesting. Nearby is the Greek Orthodox Monastery which moved into the neighborhood 1997ish and is now a huge establishment. They offer tours, I’ve heard the gardens are beautiful.

The landmark to which this cache is dedicated has been on this hill long before the monastery and isn’t affiliated with them. Perhaps some local-yocals know who placed this monument.

Depending on direction of approach high clearance is helpful. Of course this is beautiful Arizona with all our prickers, stickers and stingers. So be aware of the surroundings. The view from the top is certainly worth the effort, plus your smart phone will work great to log the find.

This cache is located on Arizona State Trust Land. A Recreational Permit is required to go on State Trust Lands. Permits are available for an individual or family. You can find more information about the permits on the ASLD web site at (visit link)
