Indian Pass Lean-To Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

New York Admin: I have been contacted by the Bureau Chief Forest Preserve Management NYSDEC in regards to geocaching in the high peaks areas of the Adirondack State Park. He expressed his concern of the sensitive ecosystem in the area and the undue pressure searching for geocaches and summit registers are placing on it. The Bureau Chief has asked us to remove all geocaches in this region. This includes the Western High Peaks Area (zone B) and the Eastern High Peaks Area (zone C) as indicated on this map. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/33889.html

Regrettably I am archiving all geocaches within this area and asking they be removed as soon as possible. The rangers could be writing tickets today but The Bureau Chief has asked them to hold off until 1 July, 2007 giving us the opportunity to police ourselves.

Your cache is within the High Peaks Region and needs to be removed as soon as possible. After your cache has been removed please email me at newyorkadmin@gmail with the GC number and let me know the cache has been picked up. If the cache is still in place after 1 July, 2007 you may be ticketed.

Geocache Description:

A fantastic hike through the adirondack park tward the Indian Pass Lean-to...

few hills. easy even in deep snow or ice! long hike. Sorry, no wheelchair access. Bring the dog? Check the rules for dogs. CANNOT go her by bike!

Elevation 2263, and it's in a tree. But since there are so few trees in this area, it shouldn't be a big problem for you.

There are lots of goodies in this one, including some 911 commemorative pins that might be worth something someday...

I am 3/4 of the way to the lean-to and so the difficulty rating is "hiked up" because of the hike's distance, no other reason. It's otherwise an easy find, it's the least I could do for you.
