Just 1/2 mile outside downtown Vader, McMurphey park is a 13
acre park along scenic Olequa Creek. Vader resident Dolores
McMurphy donated this farmland for transformation into a community
park. While the park is absolutely beautiful now, there are plans
for future enhancements including running water and electricity.
These plans may be partially influenced by the fact that once a
year, the park is open to camping for riders during the Seattle to
Portland bike ride.
Olequa Creek eventually runs into the Cowlitz river and is used
for kayaking and fishing. The mayor of Vader suggests that it is
also a great spot to wade while visiting McMurphey park. There is a
beautiful view of the Little Falls rapids from the banks near the
other active cache in the park, GC1XYXJ.
The cache is a bison and there is no need to destroy any of the
vegetation in the area to reach it. I have two caching areas,
Bellingham and Chehalis. Up in my Northern neck of the woods a
caching friend of mine, Craftea, is well known for a certain type
of hide. We call these Craftea hides of course. This is a Craftea
hide.
