The Gladdagh Cache in Enonkoski, Ihamaniemi. The aim of the cache is to indroduce the Ihamaniemi nature path and the The Monastic Protestant Community ( (visit link) ).
The cache is located in East-Finland, Enonkoski Municipality, Ihamaniemi village. Distance from the nearest town Savonlinna is about 50 kilometers.
From Savonlinna follow the "Heinävesi / Enonkoski"-signs, cross the water (Hanhivirta) by ferry. After the ferry take the first main road to the left ("Ihamaniemi") and drive 9 kilometers. After the sign Kuoppasalo you can see the building of The Monastic Protestant Community on the left side and about 200 metres ahead, a parking area and Ihamaniemi society building on the right side.
You can leave your car in the parking area and walk back to “Kuoppasalo crossroads. Take the road (Kuuselantie) to the north through a farm. After the farm you will find the first “LUONTOPOLKU” signs. Now you can use the path (marked with white stripes in the trees) or try to follow the road in order to get closer the cache.
The cache itself is an army –style container, buried in the ground. There are two, a little strange-looking old spruces within the given coordinates and the cache is behind the three smaller spruces in the middle of the bigger ones. The cache “door” can be found easily by knocking the ground. The door is camouflaged slightly.
The best time to visit this cache is from May to late November. In the winter time You should have skis or snowshoes to reach the cache place and more luck to find the “door”.
Gladdaght-kätkö Enonkosken, Ihamaniemellä. Kätkön tarkoituksena on tehdä tutuksi Ihamaniemen luontopolku ja Enonkosken Protestanttinen Luostariyhteisö ( (visit link) ).
Kätkö sijaitsee Itä-Suomessa, Enonkosken kunnassa, Ihamaniemen kylässä. Etäisyyttä lähimpään kaupunkiin Savonlinnaan on noin 50 kilometriä.
Savonlinnasta lähdettyä seuraa Enonkoski / Heinävesi –opasteita, ylitä Hanhivirta lossilla ja lossin jälkeen käänny ensimmäisestä kantatien risteyksestä vasemmalle Ihamaniemelle. Jatka tätä tietä n. 9 km. Kuoppasalon (kyltti vasemmalle) risteyksessä näet edessä, tien vasemmalla puolella Enonkosken Luostariyhteisön päärakennuksen, ja noin 200 metriä eteenpäin tien oikealla puolella Ihamaniemen seurojentalon parkkialueineen. Parkkialueelle voit jättää auton ja siirtyä jalkaisin takaisin Kuoppasalon risteykseen. Jatka matkaa risteyksestä pohjoiseen (Kuuselantie) läpi maatilan vievää tiepohjaa. Maatilan ohitettua tulee kohta ensimmäiset ”luontopolkukyltit” esiin. Nyt voit jatkaa matkaa, joko luontopolkua pitkin (merkitty valkealla maalilla puiden runkoihin) tai jatkaa tietä pitkin eteenpäin.
Kätkö itsessään on maahan haudattu suurehko ”armeijamallinen” laatikko. Annettujen koordinaattien avulla löytyy kaksi hieman oudonnäköistä kuusipuuta. Kätkö sijaitsee näiden puiden puolivälissä kolmen pienemmän kuusen takana. Kätkön ”ovi” löytyy helposti vaikka maata koputtelemalla. Itse ”ovi” on naamioitu hienokseltaan.
Parasta aikaa vierailla kätköllä on Touko – Marraskuu. Talvisaikaan on lumikengät tai sukset tarpeeseen, ja tarvitaan hieman enemmän onnea kätkön ”oven” löytämiseen.
