Geocache Description:

The listed co-ords are for suggested parking.  The cache is not hidden there.
This cache is best (and easiest) done in the dark, although it is possible in the day.

To do this cache you will need the following items:
  • A good torch
  • A sturdy pair of boots
  • A sense of adventure
Your GPSr will not help you find this cache, it will only help you find the start of the footpath at N53.41.047 W002.33.768. Several footpaths start near here, so you will have to work out which is the correct one. We advise you to keep your GPSr switched on with the tracking turned on. It will help you get back to your car after you have found the cache. The walk to the cache is around two-thirds of a mile walk from here.

A group of adventurous fireflies will guide you to the cache.


From the start of the footpath, walk around 50 steps along the path. From this point, you will see the first firefly, which will show you the correct path to take.  Here is your chance to observe how the fireflies behave. They usually hover at around eye level in trees, and will only appear if you shine your torch at them. They will not appear during the day. It is a good idea to check the trees with your torch as you follow the paths, as they will show you the correct way to go. It is also a good idea to waypoint the fireflies. If you take the wrong path it will help you get back on track.

Eventually, after you have walked around 0.6 of a mile, you will need to turn on to a path going dowhill on the left hand side of a broken down stone wall. A firely in a fir tree will show you the path. If you pass the stile you have gone too far. After a short walk following a couple more fireflies, you will find the cache. You will know when you have the right spot.
